Eoin was prolific during his lifetime in terms of his writing and his musical output.  He self-published two short poetry books and it was his wish that he would publish a full poetry anthology by his 30th birthday.  His family are working on archiving the large amount of written work he left behind and hope to honour that wish,

Static & inert

So how/why/when will/should

Can you find an agent

No. That is not the way.
 
And you know that it’s true

Love in spite of friend’s advice

         advice
Love like you have no brain
People try to control things –
         he said – this can not
         be done.
 
So Love.
And speak of Love.
And write Love a thousand times
         until it’s no longer a cliché.
 
A woman enters the train
Shivering Crying I didn’t
look at her – I wasn’t fac-
ing her direction. Some-
ones taking care of it –
There’s nothing I can do.
This weekend I might
see you – leaning over
a cup of coffee
into what I’m saying.

​Sonnet II

Morning and no glass of orange juice
At least the taste of stale pizza has left
Last night I went out with some new friends
Well, new enough – and one old friend too
And we talked to newer friends – new strangers too
A girl called Lilly Mary who I could not
Stop looking at after we had a chat
And she would look at the ground and smile
As though she were a friend of the ground
And she would look at the space where no-one
Stands and smile as though she were a friend
Of the space, and other friends of the space  
And I would look at her and smile as though
Our eyes were just about to make contact.

Ephemeral, through an open tunnel,
communal air, nodding heads, slowly,
dis-chord, harmony, out of chord,
community yet indie-vidual

      into this pub on a cloud,

​The Stream - first encounter

I sway over the stream, with one foot on a rock
And study with my eyes, the dips and flows and dives.

The broken branches, weathered rocks,
even the weeds - all brothers of a single dream
- sing to me from the stream.

My head begins to bow, into a darker deep
When suddenly, it catches me - 
riding the dips, tangled in weeds
         - a feather dancing in it's sea!
Forgotten star, betrayed to gravity.
And what are we?
But feathers caught within a stream.

​Advice For Turning 20

Think of me, I'm twenty-three
But I couldn't speak
Truely to you
While offering advice for turning
20. But still, here is something
I might have liked to hear:
           
Don't play catch up –
You will fall further
& further away
From who you are
If you're trying to catch
Up with other people.
 
Know yourself enough
To know if you like
someone's company or not.
If you don't, that's not
A failing you have, it's not
Something you need to work on
 
It's people are dull
To people who are dull.
 
Sometimes I look at someone
Who I once really liked
As a friend or something else,
And they don't seem to be
There at all – because they aren't
There with me, and then I lose
All attraction to them,
 
And instantly become more
Attracted to myself.
 
The best favours you can give
Are to yourself, I find,
And if you are ever really helping
Someone else, you'll feel
Like you are helping yourself.
And if you don't feel like
You are helping yourself
Then quit it, get out of it
As soon as you can
Because nobody cares about
You further than they care
About themselves, except
Your parents.
 
But here's me, going on,
Giving memories disguised
As advice.
 
In my eyes you seem to be doing
Well, because you seem
To be there
When you are there
And that is enough.
 
            Happy 20 years,
Goodbye teen-hood!
This is where you start
To really find your feet

​“A Journey Poem”

                                              22–1–15
                                         Cork–Heuston
                             [edited on the Heuston–Cork]
 
Leching on the train
A girl with crossed legs,
a business suit & elvish shoes,
on a mini laptop–doing
work?–is sitting
opposite me.
 
I’m about her age
but I’m a student
In rusty chinos,
a blue hoody
and a shaggy mop of hair.
 
(to write “a Journey Poem”)
must I ask her how she’s doing?
What is she doing? What’s her
name? It all seems so absurd:
She’s Irish! There are no castles
I could show her, no pubs that
I could bring her to, no stories
about our culture that she hasn’t
heard before–or that she would
like to hear.
 
Where is our common ground?
I’m not “a player”, as they say.
 
So now’s the time
–sometime on this train ride
a journey will begin or slip
away.
            –the train stops under
a bridge–
            “a funny place to stop,”
I say
            “I know ya, we’re in
the middle of nowhere.”
            “Maybe there’s a robbery
–a train robbery.”
She laughs then chokes on it
–Journey over.
 
as I was saying:
            it’s our everyday routine.
And most days, I think we know,
these journeys come
and go elsewhere
As we stay on the tracks
and get off at the terminals.
